Advanced Technologies Security & Defense to Become Licensed Sagetech Reseller in Brazil
Bingen, WA, (April, 11 2023) – Sagetech Avionics, an aerospace technology company that advances safer skies through software and transponder solutions and Advanced Technologies Security & Defense, Brazilian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) company, producing the long-range and high-altitude UAVs to meet the needs of all government, military, and commercial customers, have successfully completed the Brazilian equivalent of FCC Approval by ANATEL, The Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency. This approval marks the kick-off of the partnership, allowing the importation of the FAA TSO-approved MXS Transponder with ADS-B in/out. This enables Advanced Technologies Security & Defense to provide both the Sagetech MXS and ACAS X-based Detect and Avoid (DAA) solutions to the Brazilian UAV ecosystem and OEMs leading the development of NAS integration. Sagetech’s onboard Automated Collision Avoidance System (ACAS) Xu Detect and Avoid (DAA) processor enables increased situational awareness and safety for all unmanned aircraft.
In addition to becoming a reseller, Advanced Technologies Security & Defense will be offering the HARPIA UAV, now equipped with the MXS ADS-B in/out transponder to law enforcement agencies, the Ministry of Defense, as well as many other commercial customers in Brazil. Customers using the Advanced Technologies Security & Defense UAV will now have the ability to upgrade their aircraft with a full power ADS-B in/out transponder that is low SWaP (190 grams); thus improving operational safety, providing the pilot with greater situational awareness, and working with the CAA to seek Special Certificates of Authority, flying beyond the operator’s visual line of sight (BVLOS). Enhanced ARPIA UAVs with onboard ACAS Xu DAA will greatly reduce the operational risk volume, giving the remote pilot greater situational awareness for potential air risks, while prescribing appropriate collision avoidance maneuvers. This automated alerting allows the operator to develop training standards using the automated alerts and prescribed maneuvers to ensure greater safety in the National Airspace. Integrating non-cooperative sensors with the TSO-approved MXS ADS-B transponder via Sagetech’s ACAS X sensor fusion and collision avoidance module provides a complete DAA air risk mitigation solution. This will allow the UAS operator to fly with a certifiable ACAS X-based avoidance system, incorporating one or more forms of noncooperative detection as well as the certified MXS.
Civil Aviation Authorities, including the FAA, have consistently stated that UAV operators must be able to detect and avoid cooperative aircraft (those utilizing transponders to broadcast their location) as well as noncooperative traffic (aircraft not broadcasting their location). A significant portion of air traffic around the world is noncooperative, making their detection a paramount safety concern. Combining noncooperative traffic detection, coupled with Sagetech’s cooperative surveillance and avoidance module, adds a more robust set of avoidance options for safer BVLOS operations.
Sagetech Avionics offers both cooperative surveillance (ADS-B in/out and military Mode 5 IFF) and Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS) for rotorcraft (Xr), large fixed-wing UAVs (Xu), as well as small UAVs (sXu), enabling the fusion of non-cooperative sensors to present the optimal action to be taken when intruder aircraft are detected. Actions can include avoidance maneuvers in horizontal and vertical planes, allowing the aircraft to avoid a collision by turning right or left, and ascending or descending as necessary. In the future, this system can provide fully autonomous maneuvers, enhancing safety and significantly increasing the economic benefit of uncrewed missions.
